Canes
You may have heard the terms "canes" or "canework" and are not really sure what those terms are referring to. While canework can be complicated, it can also be a lot of fun and is a great outlet for your creative energies!
A cane is a long roll of clay with a pattern that runs through it. Typical patterns are kaleidoscope designs, flowers and animals, but you can find just about anything in a cane design. Thin slices are cut off the cane and used as decoration for beads or other items. Because the pattern runs throughout the length of the roll, each slice will look the same. You can learn to make your own canes, or you can buy them in the uncured state from polymer clay artists.
